St George’s Day music and theatre

Gravesend town centre is keeping its St George’s Day tradition with mediaeval ‘mummers’ and a big brass band.

On Easter Saturday (23 April) which coincides with St George’s Day, shoppers are invited to New Road to hear The Salvation Army Band play some traditional big brass music. The Big Fish Theatre Company will also be in town re-enacting the noble tale of St George and the Dragon.

The Salvation Army has performed at the Royal Albert Hall and at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The 30-strong brass band is made up of top musicians of the Corps from throughout the region. They will be giving hour long concerts of light and traditional music at New Road, Gravesend, at 10.30am and 12.30pm.

The Big Fish Theatre Company will be telling the story of St George and the Dragon in the fun, mediaeval way of ‘mummers’ – a traditional style of street theatre, at 11.30am, 1.30 and 3.30pm.
