Perched on a cliff-top, Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum is housed in one of the last Victorian villas in Bournemouth, East Cliff Hall. Originally designed and lived in by Sir Merton and Lady Russell-Cotes, the villa's architectural and interior design is flamboyant and eccentric. The museum's collections include paintings and sculpture, including 19th Century European paintings and religious and iconographic Italian Renaissance paintings. Merton and Annie Russell-Cotes were keen collectors and travellers, bringing home objects from countries around the world, including Russia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Hawaii, the Middle East and Japan.
