New Brewery Arts

Nature is all around us, but how often do we really look at it in detail? This new exhibition at Brewery Arts invites us to stop and think about the complexity of the earth, our interaction with the landscape and its impact on us.

Inspiring digital art to be showcased at Corinium

Kai Murphy, a Cotswolds-based photographer and digital artist will be exhibiting some stunning images at the Corinium Museum during June.

The free exhibition, which runs from Saturday 4th to Saturday 25th June, will showcase some of Kai’s latest prints which draw inspiration from the landscape, architecture, places, people and ‘everyday things.’

Boost for local Visitor Information Centres from CDC

Visitor Information Centres (VICs) in the Cotswolds have been buoyed by the news that Cotswold District Council will provide grants totalling £44,000 to help fund them during the year ahead.

The Council’s Cabinet, meeting on 16th March, agreed to continue funding VICs in Bourton-on-the-Water (£24,000 grant), Chipping Campden (£10,000 grant) and Tetbury (£10,000 grant), as well as retaining the Cirencester-based VIC which is located in the Corinium Museum, and the VIC at the Moreton Area Centre.

Fundraising...CDC has a ‘nose’ for it!

Staff and customers at Cotswold Leisure will be taking to their bikes and the water to raise money for Red Nose Day this year.

Leisure Centres at Bourton and Cirencester are vying to be top dogs in the fund-raising stakes as they both stage marathon charity rides on exercise bikes (one for staff and one for customers) on Friday 18th March. Volunteers will be asked to ride for 20 minute stints in an effort to keep the bikes going continuously from 9 am to 6 pm. Regular users of their gyms have already been alerted and quite a few have already signed up for the marathon events.

Only six weeks to go until world’s biggest fundraising swim

With Swimathon 2011 just around the corner, Cotswold Leisure centres in Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden and Cirencester are encouraging people in Gloucestershire to take part.

Corinium features in Top 20 Family Friendly Museums – and is still in line for an even bigger accolade!

Staff at Cotswold District Council’s Corinium Museum have been delighted to learn that their bid for the prestigious Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award 2011 is gathering pace. The Corinium has been ‘long listed’ for the award, along with 19 other museums and galleries, on the basis of the enthusiastic feedback received from the public. Typical comments about the Corinium included the following:

Get to grips with the past at the Corinium during February school holidays

This February holiday, children will be able to take part in some fun hands-on activities at the Corinium Museum. There will be lots of activities on offer: Heraldry, Tudor Portraits, and Anglo-Saxon Helmets.

Heraldry - find out about the meaning behind medieval coats of arms and make one of your own to take home. Monday 21st February, from 2 to 3.30pm

Tudor Portraits - create your own masterpiece, perhaps in the style of the old master Holbein. Wednesday 22nd February, 2 to 3.30pm.

Creative students explore the past at Corinium Museum

The Corinium Museum has teamed up with Cirencester College in a new partnership project called ‘Echoes Through Time.’

Ten students studying for a BTEC in Creative Media Production will spend a week at the Museum to produce an audio trail based on aspects of the collections. They will learn how to interpret heritage items with television archaeologist and radio presenter, Julian Richards, and will explore the challenges of accessing heritage sites with Zoe Partington-Sollinger, Arts Development Officer with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB.)
